Podcasting really is for EVERYONE! This workshop with debunk the myth that podcasting is only for the "tech-savvy" types. Participants will be provided hands-on instruction that will enable each to learn the basics of podcasting and how it can be easily integrated into various subjects in the classroom. This workshop is interactive, so please plan to bring your Mac laptop!

The World of Quia (Interactive Lessons in Social Studies)

Quia is an online tool for educators that can help in virtually every aspect of education. From the simple task of posting notes straight through to receiving detailed analysis of student assessment, Quia is indispensable for the 21st century teacher.
Participants will be given their own Quia accounts and will be shown how to create engaging activities as well as various assessments for their classrooms.

Integrating a SmartBoard Into Your Science Lessons

The many ways a SmartBoard has been integrated into daily science lessons will be shared. Although the examples and demonstrations are from science lessons, most can be applied to other curricular areas. Time for Q&A will be provided.

eMission – Space Station Alpha – Interactive Video Conference

Participants will experience an actual eMission - e-Mission "Space Station Alpha" is an innovative way to engage students with math and science in real-life situations. During the mission, students connect live with a flight director at the Challenger Learning Center in Wheeling, WV. With the help of computers, the Internet and a small video camera, students interact with Mission Control to track the solar storm, monitor orbital position, predict radiation levels, study oxygen levels and divert power to life support systems. Students assisting the Space Station astronauts join one of four teams:
• STORM Team: Solar Tracking and Orbital Monitoring
• Radiation Team: Radiation monitoring and shielding
• Life Support: Environmental monitoring and astronaut health
• Mission Operations: Electronics systems and power generation

The session will include an in-depth demonstration of Apple's GarageBand software and a discussion of the possible uses of this popular digital recording program in a variety of subject areas as well as for your own use. A demonstration of music for video, done in GarageBand, will help to develop ideas that can enhance student or faculty-designed projects. GarageBand can also be used to produce your own professional sounding music for your websites.
